Terms of Service

By creating an account, joining the waitlist, or otherwise using Language Lab, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. These Terms also apply to the app and any paid features as they launch.

The service is operated by Settlebuddy Technologies, a micro-enterprise registered under India’s MSME framework, Building No. 3871, Mauli Jagran Complex, Chandigarh 160102, India. In these Terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Settlebuddy Technologies.

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account and use Language Lab yourself. If you are under 16, a parent or guardian must set up and manage the account for you.

Some countries treat everyone under 18 as a child — including India, South Africa and Brazil. If you live in one of these countries and are under 18, you may use Language Lab only with verifiable parental or guardian consent. Where your local law sets a higher age for any feature, that higher age applies. By using Language Lab you confirm you meet these requirements.

Language Lab is an AI language-learning product, currently in pre-launch private beta. It offers AI-powered lessons and an AI tutor that helps you practise a new language. During beta, access may be limited, invite-only, and subject to change.

Language Lab uses AI to generate lesson content and tutor responses. AI output may contain errors.

Do not rely on AI-generated language advice for legal, medical, or safety-critical communications. Always verify important translations or instructions with a qualified human professional. Our AI features are educational tools, not a substitute for professional advice.

All content, AI models, branding, designs, text, audio, software, and code that make up Language Lab are owned by Settlebuddy Technologies or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the service for your own personal, non-commercial language learning. No other rights are granted. You may not copy, resell, or republish our content without our written permission.

If you submit content while practising — for example text you type, or short voice input — we use it only to provide the service and give you feedback. Two features involve your voice, and they work differently:

• AI tutor (Sonia): your speech is converted to text in your browser. Only the resulting text is sent to us; your raw voice audio for this feature never leaves your device.
• Pronunciation Coach: to score how you pronounce a word, a short audio clip is uploaded to our servers, analysed to give you instant feedback, and then handled as described in our privacy notice. It is not sold and is not used to train models.

We do not sell your content. We do not use your submissions to train our own AI models, and the third-party AI providers that process your input do so under contractual terms that prohibit using it to train their models. You keep ownership of what you submit, and you grant us a limited licence to process and store it for the purposes above. How we handle personal data is explained in our privacy notice.

When using Language Lab, you agree not to:

• post or generate hate speech, harassment, or unlawful content;
• abuse, spam, or attempt to manipulate the AI tutor into harmful or prohibited output;
• reverse engineer, decompile, or extract our AI models, code, or content;
• use bots, scrapers, or other automated means to harvest data or access the service;
• disrupt, overload, or attempt to breach the security of the service;
• submit other people’s personal data without their permission.

We may suspend or terminate access that breaches these rules.

During beta, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”. Features may change, be removed, or experience downtime without notice. We make no warranty of any kind — including accuracy, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability — to the fullest extent permitted by law. You use the beta at your own discretion.

A Free plan is available with no card required. Paid plans (currently Standard and Pro) are subscriptions billed in advance for the plan period you choose. Prices are shown on our pricing page in the currency indicated at checkout; applicable taxes are added where required.

Auto-renewal. Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account settings or by contacting us; your access continues until the end of the period already paid for, and no further charges are made for later periods. Refunds are governed by our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Merchant of Record. Our order process and payments are handled by Gumroad, Inc., which acts as the Merchant of Record for your purchase. Gumroad handles the transaction, billing, invoicing and collection of any applicable taxes on our behalf, and your purchase is therefore also subject to Gumroad’s Terms (gumroad.com/terms). After purchase, your plan activates in the app using the email address you used at checkout. Billing or invoice queries can be raised with Gumroad or with us directly.

Price changes. We may change subscription prices for future billing periods. We will give you reasonable advance notice, and continued use after a change takes effect means you accept the new price.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Settlebuddy Technologies is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service.

Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, or any mandatory rights you have as a consumer in your country of residence.

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, where our operator is established.

This choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence. EU and UK consumers retain their local statutory rights, which these Terms do not override.

If you have a problem, please contact us first — we aim to resolve disputes informally and in good faith.

If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, it will be subject to the courts of Chandigarh, India. However, EU consumers may instead bring proceedings in the courts of their own country of residence, in line with Regulation (EU) No 1215/2012, and UK consumers keep their equivalent local rights.

We are not responsible for any failure or delay in providing the service caused by events beyond our reasonable control — for example, internet or hosting outages, power failures, natural disasters, strikes, or acts of government.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force, and the invalid provision will be applied to the maximum extent permitted by law.

These Terms, together with our privacy notice, make up the entire agreement between you and Settlebuddy Technologies regarding your use of Language Lab, and replace any earlier understanding on the subject.

We may update these Terms as the product develops — for example, when accounts or paid features launch. We will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
