Refund & Cancellation Policy

1. Overview

This Refund & Cancellation Policy (the “Policy”) governs all purchases of subscription-based digital services made through Language Lab (language-lab.io), operated by Settlebuddy Technologies(“Language Lab”, “we”, “us” or “our”). By purchasing a subscription, the customer (“you” or “the Customer”) agrees to the terms set out in this Policy.

Language Lab provides digital, subscription-based access to AI-powered language-learning content, including but not limited to structured lessons, interactive exercises, AI-guided conversation practice, pronunciation-assessment tools, and related learning features (collectively, the “Services”). Because the Services are digital content delivered electronically and consumed immediately upon access, this Policy is drafted specifically for digital subscription products and does not include provisions relating to the return of physical goods, as no physical goods are sold.

2. Your Right of Withdrawal (EU / EEA and UK Customers)

2.1 Statutory right
If you are a consumer residing in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom, you have a statutory right to withdraw from your purchase within fourteen (14) calendar days from the date of purchase, without giving any reason, under the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) and, for UK customers, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
2.2 Waiver of the withdrawal right upon commencement of service
Because the Services constitute digital content and digital services supplied on an immediate and continuous basis, and not goods delivered in physical form:

By completing your purchase, you expressly acknowledge and consent that Language Lab shall begin performance of the Services — including, without limitation, providing access to lesson content, interactive exercises, AI-guided instruction, pronunciation-assessment tools, and any other features made available through the platform — before the expiry of the 14-day withdrawal period described in Section 2.1.

You further acknowledge that, by giving this consent, your statutory right of withdrawal expires once performance of the Services has commenced, in accordance with Article 16(m) of Directive 2011/83/EU. Where performance has commenced, you remain entitled to request a refund under this Policy, but such refund will be calculated on a pro-rata basis as described in Section 3, reflecting the value of the Services already used, rather than as a full refund.

This consent and acknowledgment is obtained from you at the point of purchase, and a confirmation of this consent will be provided to you on a durable medium (for example, by email) at the time of purchase.
2.3 If no content has been accessed
If you have not accessed, viewed, or otherwise used any part of the Services within the 14-day window described in Section 2.1, you are entitled to a full refund of the amount paid, with no deduction.

3. Pro-Rata Refund Calculation

3.1 General method
Where a refund request is submitted within 14 days of purchase and the Customer has accessed part of the Services, the refund amount is calculated on a pro-rata basis:
Refund Amount = Total Amount Paid − Value of Services Used

Value of Services Used = (Subscription Price ÷ Total Lessons Available in the Billing Period) × Number of Lessons Accessed
Worked example. A Customer pays €20 for a monthly subscription providing access to approximately 30 lessons. The Customer accesses 5 lessons before requesting a refund on day 4.
Value of Services Used = (€20 ÷ 30) × 5 = €3.33
Refund Amount = €20 − €3.33 = €16.67
3.2 Basis for calculation
Refund determinations are based on the Customer’s documented account activity, including lesson-access logs, completion timestamps, and platform-usage records. The same method is applied consistently to all Customers. Where usage data is inconclusive or unavailable, Language Lab may request that the Customer provide reasonably available supporting information to facilitate the review.
3.3 What is not refundable
• Refund requests submitted more than 14 days after the original purchase date.
• The value of lessons or content already accessed, viewed, or completed (deducted per Section 3.1).
• Subscription fees for billing periods already fully consumed.
• Discount differentials — refunds reflect the amount actually paid, not the standard price.

4. Refund Request Process

4.1 How to request
Email [email protected], including your order ID or purchase email, the reason for your request, and the approximate date lesson access began (if applicable).
4.2 Review and processing timeline
Language Lab will process and issue any refund due within 14 calendar days of receiving the request, in accordance with Article 13 of Directive 2011/83/EU. We aim to process faster than this statutory maximum wherever possible.
4.3 Method of refund
Refunds are issued to the original payment method via our payment processor (Paddle and/or Lemon Squeezy), unless you expressly agree to an alternative method. You incur no fees from Language Lab as a result of the refund; Language Lab is not responsible for fees charged by your own bank or payment provider.

5. Subscription Cancellation (Distinct from Refunds)

Cancelling a subscription is separate from requesting a refund:

• Access continues through the end of the current paid billing period.
• No further charges apply for subsequent periods.
• Cancellation alone does not entitle you to a refund for the current period — a separate refund request under Sections 2–4 is required.

6. Customers Outside the EU / EEA / UK

6.1 General approach
Language Lab extends the same 14-day, pro-rata refund framework to all Customers globally as a consistent company policy, not only where legally mandated.
6.2 United States
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled. You may cancel at any time via your account settings or support. Renewal terms and cancellation mechanisms are disclosed clearly at the point of purchase, consistent with applicable state auto-renewal laws.
6.3 India
Consistent with the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, refund and cancellation terms are disclosed clearly at the point of purchase, with a grievance and refund mechanism available via Section 4.1.
6.4 Other jurisdictions
Where local law provides Customers with more favourable rights than this Policy, those local rights take precedence to the extent required by applicable law.

7. Fraud & Abuse Prevention

Language Lab reserves the right to review account activity in connection with any refund request to prevent abuse of this Policy. Requests forming part of a pattern of repeated subscribe-use-refund activity, or involving fraudulent or misleading information, may be declined or referred for further review — based on documented usage data, applied consistently, and not on arbitrary grounds.

8. Changes to This Policy

Language Lab may update this Policy to reflect changes in law or business practices. The version in effect at the time of your purchase governs that purchase, unless a later version is required to apply retroactively by law. We will revise the “Last updated” date above when changes are made.
