Accessibility Statement

The short version

• We aim for WCAG 2.1 Level AA and partially meet it today.
• You can type to Sonia instead of speaking.
• Tell us about any barrier: we reply as soon as we can.

1. Our commitment

Language Lab should be usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, captions or reduced-motion settings. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the baseline used by the European standard EN 301 549, and we are working towards WCAG 2.2 AA.

2. How far we are

Language Lab partially conforms to WCAG 2.1 AA: some parts don’t yet fully meet the standard. This is based on our own review; we haven’t had an independent audit yet.

3. What we have built in

• Meaningful page structure and headings for assistive technology.
• Keyboard access to interactive elements.
• Text and key controls designed to meet AA colour-contrast ratios.
• Your device’s reduced-motion setting is respected: non-essential animation is reduced or removed.
• Self-hosted fonts that load reliably.
• You can type to Sonia instead of speaking.
• Listening steps in lessons have a “Can’t listen now” option, so you can continue without audio.
• The 3D scenes (Nerdie, Sonia’s orb, the globe) hold still when your device asks for reduced motion.

4. Known limitations

• Some exercises are built around sound — dictation, pronunciation scoring and speaking practice — and can’t be done fully without hearing or speaking. You can skip them and keep learning with the rest.
• The 3D scenes are decorative and have no text description of their own.
• Completion certificates are images; the text on them is not readable by a screen reader.
• We have not yet tested every screen with a screen reader and keyboard only.
